“Our jury was impressed not only by the technical expertise that Haley showcases, but also in her thoughtful and interesting choice of subject matter. The Seattle viaduct was much a loved structure for the city and this painting captures a powerful air of loneliness and an elegaic sense of what is long gone.” — Lydia Aldredge, Chair, Artist Award Committee, Allied Arts Foundation
Haley states, “I was inspired by a Pinterest photo I had seen from the user ‘We Heart It’ that depicted the perfect city for me to take reference of. I wanted to show the city from a calmer perspective, thus why I chose the laziness of a cloudy night and the normality of traffic while coming home.”
In addition to an award trophy from the Office of Superintendent, Haley received an award certificate and a check for $200 from Allied Arts Foundation. Her work will be professionally framed and exhibited for one year in the Port of Seattle’s prestigious Public Works collection.
