Allied Arts Foundation Emerging Artist Grants

Deadline: 8:00PM May 8, 2017 – CLOSED

The 2017 Emerging Artist Grant Awards are now closed.  Our 2017 winners list is posted here Information on our 2018 programs will be posted in late fall of 2017.

In 2017 Allied Arts Foundation awarded eight grants to emerging artists residing in Western Washington: One $5,000 award, two $2,500 awards, and five $1,000 awards.

The 2017 awards focused on 2D Visual Arts. Applicants must reside in Western Washington and be emerging artists. Students are ineligible.

To keep the application as simple as possible, we only requested an informal artist statement (500 words max),  artist resume, 10 digital images with image descriptions, and a $10 entry fee.

The 2017 awards focused on 2D Visual Arts – artworks that are generally flat and meant to hang on a wall. This included but was not limited to:

o   Painting
o   Printmaking
o   Photography
o   Self-contained video
o   Fiber arts
o   Panels of wood, glass, metal or other materials
o   2D mixed media.

The 2017 awards did NOT fund sculpture, literature, performing arts (theater, dance, music, videos of performances), site-specific installations, nor other non-2D visual arts.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

o   WESTERN WASHINGTON RESIDENTS:  Applicants must reside in Western Washington, defined as west of the Cascade Mountains to the Pacific Ocean and between the north and south borders of the State.

o   EMERGING ARTISTS:  The AAF Artist Awards Committee specifically leaves the term “emerging artist” undefined. If you consider yourself an emerging artist, please apply. Artists who have no gallery representation or who have had few gallery shows, artists returning to their careers after an extended absence, and emerging artists outside of the Seattle-metro area are especially encouraged to apply.

o   STUDENTS INELIGIBLE:  Students enrolled in a degree program directly related to the discipline or whose degrees are pending at the time of application are ineligible to apply. Undergraduate students and high school students are ineligible to apply.

o   ARTISTS SPONSORED BY ALLIED ARTS FOUNDATION INELIGIBLE:   Artists who have former or active fiscal sponsorship contracts with Allied Arts Foundation are ineligible to apply.

These awards were judged and scored by a panel of art professionals whose decisions will be based on artist application answers, resumes, and images of past or current work.

o   You do NOT have to submit a project description, budget, or needs statement.  We are more interested in your talent, passion, and the inspiration for your art.

o   Awarded funds are unrestricted and may be used at the artist’s discretion.

o   All decisions by the panel are final.

Allied Arts Foundation Sponsorship

With an Allied Arts Foundation sponsorship, you can hold fund raisers for your arts project, and donations to your project will be tax deductible for the donors.   Please note that funds that you receive are still considered income by the IRS and must be reported on your annual tax return.  Allied Arts Foundation charges a 10% fee for all funds raised and we also deduct any credit card fees, PayPal fees, or other fees incurred from your award.  This is a great way to raise money for your arts project or organization!

We invite your application for umbrella sponsorship at any time, although it is advisable that you apply well before funding deadlines which may require our tax status notification or our IRS Letter of Determination for your application. We sponsor projects and artists on a by-project or ongoing basis.

Please follow the application procedure, and contact Karen Kane (206.624.0432) for additional information about the sponsorship program.
