“In Between the Raindrops,” is a feature-length video documentary project that pays tribute to a number of historical jazz figures (including Quincy Jones, Ernestine Anderson, and others) who got their start in Seattle during the 40’s. In the interviews, the artists discuss such topics as their love for the craft, the early years of Quincy Jones as a composer, the experience of performing in Seattle during a raid, and the racial divide between the musicians’ unions during that time (two unions – one white & one non-white).
The documentary is expected to be completed in 2011. As part of the project, two concerts were organized under the name “Seattle Jazz Legends in Concert” to feature a number of the artists who were interviewed, performing together. Producing these concerts was made possible with the support of Allied Arts Foundation.
